The HPBC20 high runner for PCB mounting is entering its second round. In order to future-proof the DC/DC converter, a major update has been carried out to ensure that it can continue to be supplied in the future. The update with now generously dimensioned components offers the PSU more power reserves, which benefits the longevity.

The HPBC20 offers an ultra-wide input voltage range of 14.4 V to 154 V with sustained output of 20 watts of power. A single converter thus covers all international on-board voltages for rail vehicles (24 V, 36 V, 72 V, 96 V and 110 V) including the tolerance range of +/- 40 % required by EN 50155 in a single device. This ultra-wide solution is thus optimal for companies operating throughout Europe to perform the qualification of assemblies cost-efficiently with one device.

The EN 50155:2022 regarding temperature, shock, vibration, as well as the railroad specific criteria for EMC according to EN50121-3-2, as well as Surge, Burst and ESD are completely complied with without additional components. In addition, the converter has an integrated hold-up-time of 10 ms (class S2), which makes the compact converter (63 mm x 55 mm x 20mm) unique. High efficiency (up to 88 %) is achieved by combining a booster and single forward converter at the optimized operating point. Natural convection is quite sufficient for cooling, full power is available over the entire input and temperature range. The use up to temperatures of -40 °C to 85 °C is no challenge (Class OT4, ST1/ST2), the fire protection requirements are fulfilled with Hazard-Level 3 (R24/R25) according to EN 45545-2. The classification regarding shock/vibration is category 1 class B (EN 61373).

Inrush current limiting and overvoltage and overtemperature protection are integrated as standard, and the converter is also open-circuit and continuous short-circuit proof. Versions with 5 V, 12 V and 24 V output are available.
