For years, AUTRONIC has been offering the suitable power supply for CompactPCI (serial) and now it is breaking new ground with the 120 W DC/DC converter HEC120-5W.

HEC120-5DB, the 19" converter for CompactPCI (Serial)

Compared to its predecessor version, one converter covers the complete input range between 14.4 V and 154 V.

Previously, this required at least two devices. The robust converter has been specially developed for use in railway applications (EN 50155) and harsh mobile environments. That is why the rugged power supply is great for cPCI and cPCI serial applications like Onboard PCs.

The variability of the outputs is a special feature of this converter. Available are five outputs with 3.3 V, 5 V, ± 12 V and a standby auxiliary voltage with 5 V. Depending on the requirement, the total power is also available via the 5 V (100 W) or 12 V (120 W) output alone. Compared to the previous version, this means that the HEC120 can also be used for CompactPCI Serial applications.

The efficiency has been increased from 83 % to 91 %, so the convection-cooled converter is a thermally perfectly solution and thus offers a unique feature in the market. The new DC/DC converter provides 120 W instead of 100 W in the temperature range of -40 °C to 85 °C without any derating. In the past it had been necessary to pay attention to the derating starting from 60 °C. The new converter has a width of only 6 TE .

The galvanically isolated DC/DC converter has many features integrated, such as active inrush current limitation and polarity reverse protection, temperature, overcurrent and overvoltage protection, parallel and redundancy operation with integrated O-ring controllers, 10 ms hold up time and a high insulation resistance. The HEC120 is idle-proof and permanently short-circuit-proof.

The design-in of the plug-and-play devices is very easy, as all railway-specific EMC criteria according to EN 50121-3-2 are integrated and need no further additional components. Surge and conducted emission achieve even higher requirements as needed for the railway market. The PCB of the HEC120 has been carefully selected according to the current Fire and Smoke standard EN 45545-2 (R25).
